3-Year-Old Stockton Girl Dies During Dental Procedure

Stockton, CA – A 3-year old named Daleyza Avila Hernandez has died after a routine dental procedure went horribly wrong. She went in to have a couple of teeth pulled, it ended with ambulances rushing to the scene and a mother left trying to put the pieces together.

“All I did was I took my daughter to the dentist because they were going to fix her teeth, and about 30 minutes later they brought her back dead,” Avila told Fox 40.

The dentist did not allow the mother, Avila, into the room while the procedure was happening. She first noted something was wrong when the ambulances pulled up to the office. Following that, a nurse informed her of the situation and suggested her daughter had “underlying heart issues.” The little girl had a reaction to anesthetics, but her mom classified her daughter as “very healthy.”

“This is not an easy thing to deal with. I’ve been doing this for almost ten years now; I’ve never had a situation like this,” Thompson said. “We’re committed to helping kids every single day. That’s our mission, that’s why we’re here. It’s risky; not everyone wants to do it.”

The dentist justified the mother being left in the lobby for sterilization purposes.

The Dental Board and Stockton, California police have an open investigation. The family has set up a GoFundMe page.

Are children being pushed into dental procedures for unreasonable procedures? It’s a serious undertaking to place a child under anesthetics.
