The Benchmade 551 Griptilian Knife is a fantastic, top-quality EDC knife. I have it in my best EDC knife section because I love the quality and the functionality of it. The Benchmade 551 is a stellar achievement, though, it will cost you a shade more than a budget EDC knife typically would. I’ve commonly seen them for just over the $100 price point depending on where you decide to shop.

551 Griptilian – A Deeper Look
The Benchmade 551 Griptilian blade is made from 154CM stainless steel. This quality of steel should resist any rusting and it holds an edge as good as any steel out there. The quality of the blade gives it more than just an EDC task level competency, you can use it for various workshop and outdoor tasks. This is a drop point blade style. The blade is more than capable of carving up small trees into thin fuel for a fire. There is an axis lock for the blade. The edge is plain and non-serrated.
Consistent with the hame and marketing, the 551 Griptilian’s grip is cozy, strong and reliable. The lightweight design and handle grips make it a pleasure to hold. It also feels extremely safe in hand. The handle is made from glass-reinforced nylon.
This is an ambidextrous experience and you can open it with the use of one hand.
It also has a pocket clip on the side for those who care about such things. If you use it, you will have about 3/4″ of the knife exposed.
The lanyard hole supports both left or right needs.
Benchmade Lifetime Warranty
One of the best aspects of the Benchmade 551 Griptilian is that it comes with a lifetime warranty by the manufacturer. In fact, you get a Lifesharp warranty as well meaning that Benchmark will sharpen your knife for you. Its important to keep in mind that these warranties only apply if you’ve purchased the Griptilian from an authorized dealer, so make sure you are aware who and where you are purchasing it from.
This is one of the best knives on the market in terms of EDC, it does, however, cost a little bit more than your common budget EDC knife. If you are willing to spend a little bit more, you will not regret this knife.
