Chicago Street Gangs To ‘Shoot Cops On Sight,’ According To FBI Warning
The situation in Chicago continues to deteriorate with the newest FBI warning that rogue gangs are forming alliances against local police. According to the FBI, around three dozen gangs “have formed a pact to ‘shoot on-sight any cop that has a weapon drawn on any subject in public’.”
FBI officials in Chicago released the warning on August 26th hoping to raise awareness among Chicago P.D. officers working in high-risk zones. The verbiage of the warnings point to more than just rogue or empty threats. The report reads, “members of these gang factions have been actively searching for, and filming, police officers in performance of their official duties. The purpose of which is to catch on film an officer drawing his/her weapon on any subject and the subsequent ‘shoot on-site’ of said officer, in order to garner national media attention.”
This appears to be a coordinated, strategic effort to inflict major harm and death upon Chicago’s police force. The FBI’s “Potential Activity Alert” is derived from “a contact whose reporting is limited and whose reliability cannot be determined.” This points directly to a street informant.
“I think it’s bigger than a suggestion,” CPD Superintendent David Brown said. “I think 51 officers being shot at or shot in one year, I think that quadruples any previous year in Chicago’s history. So I think it’s more than a suggestion that people are seeking to do harm to cops.”
In Chicago, violent deaths are a new normal, with dozens of victims daily. The city is a literal war zone as it stands. The newest threats point to a more strategic, warlord approach by Chicago’s ruling gangs at a time when some of our society has turned its back on police forces. The gangs are likely to take advantage of public divide over law enforcement. Police continue to battle a relaxed view on lawless activities.
“We need police officers and as community members we need to push back fervently against lawlessness,” Brown said.
