A new conspiracy theory is causing an uproar on Youtube this week. It, of course, involves coronavirus (because what news story doesn’t lead with pandemic play anymore), but it also includes actor Tom Hanks, who is recovering from coronavirus.

Several videos pitch a baseless QAnon conspiracy that claims a number of top-level politicians and successful Hollywood actors are involved in a child pedophilia ring.

One video asserts that Hanks is consisting with the deep state to take down President Trump. Sadly, the video has nearly 400,000 views. They believe that coronavirus is fake and being used to take down these elites.

The saga involves a woman named Sarah Ruth Ashcraft. She claims that Hanks purchased her for sex at age 13.

Mainstream media outlets have reported the story, but from the perspective that Youtube’s allowing unfounded conspiracy theories to taint celebrity names in their search algorithm.

Youtube said in a statement that it continues to strive to stop the spread of misinformation on its network.

“We’re continuously working to better surface and promote news and authoritative sources to make the best possible information available to YouTube viewers,” a YouTube spokesperson told BuzzFeed News.

The video has since been removed by Youtube.
