CPS Sequesters, Interrogates Defiant Salon Owner’s Child
Glamour Salon in Salem, Oregon is open for business. And similar to Shelley Luther’s Dallas salon debacle, owner Lindsay Graham continues to draw scrutiny and support in a divisive battle to reopen. Graham continues to defy Oregon governor Kate Brown’s draconian shutdown orders. And she’s collecting substantial fines the whole way. Fines are accumulating to the tune of $14,000 from OSHA.
The OSHA fines, however, appear to be a scam given that Graham’s salon, like many other salons, uses independent contractors. Not employees. But OSHA likely understands this and is merely leveraging a scare tactic. But Graham isn’t having it, a message she made clear in a press conference outside of Glamour Salon’s doors.
Beyond the fines, it seems Oregon’s officials may likening their process to “protect public health” to that of their name, Salem. As in, “Salem witch trials.” No, we aren’t talking about the same “Salem,” however, the government’s latest tactics deployed to intimidate Graham by isolating her child for questioning can’t be understated.
According to Graham, May 7th, Child Protective Services sequestered and questioned Graham’s child independent of both parents.
“If you can possibly believe this, on May 7 Child Protective Services showed up at my home. They questioned my husband and I, they questioned my child without me present, they searched our home,” Graham said outside her salon on Friday, according to KOIN 6. “And I’ve never expected such a violent, aggressive, vindictive thing could have ever been done to me or my family.”
Imagine you wake up one day and America is at war with defiant stylists who blatantly and insensitively think they have a right to work and provide for their families. That’s the America you live in today. Being that in both the Dallas and Salem cases, the stylists who stand/stood united were mostly women, it’s even more baffling given we are just on the heels of #metoo. Are we empowering these women by trashing their abilities to earn a living?
