Dr. Fauci Says Mask Into 2022 ‘Possible’

Tired of wearing a mask? Well, the ride may be far from over according to Dr. Fauci. Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, Dr. Fauci said that American’s may need to wear masks into 2022. His reasoning for such a broad extension resides in vaccinated population and cases declining.

Host Dana Bash caused an uproar of herself after categorizing hold-out teachers as “dragging their feet” to return to work.

“It depends on the level of dynamics of virus that’s in the community,” Fauci said. “I want it to keep going down to a baseline that’s so low there is virtually no threat.” The key is the combination between wearing masks and getting vaccinated. “If you combine getting most of the people in the country vaccinated with getting the level of virus in the community very, very low, then I believe you’re going to be able to say, for the most part, we don’t necessarily have to wear masks,” he added.

He continued by commenting on the COVID-19 500,000 death total.

“It’s really horrible,” Fauci said. “It’s something that is historic. It’s nothing like we have ever been through in the last 102 years, since the 1918 influenza pandemic.”
