Pharmaceutical Industry Drains Pregnant Cow Fetuses To Make Vaccines
Vaccine companies are draining the blood of pregnant cows’ fetuses for research purposes.
The act of draining a cow’s unborn calf of blood is a legal practice but it often results in intense pain and suffering. The research companies leave the pregnant cows standing for hours in pens and cages while they await their fate.
Some of the pregnant cows give birth while in transit, which is a violation of animal welfare codes.
While the practice is legal (in some respects), a whistleblower obtained by the Herald On Sunday is calling out the industry for its brutal practices. The whistleblower has chosen to conceal their identity as a way to mitigate any potential ramifications for exposing the vaccine industry.
“Some will leave the cow pregnant as long as possible to get a bigger fetus to get more blood, to get more money,” the whistleblower said.
“And that cow has already given her life to produce milk, I just don’t see how they justify it. I think it’s an appalling practice.”
Pharmaceutical companies use calf fetus blood to grow cells for purposes of vaccine creation as well as making laboratory meat.
One calf heart will 300ml of serum. Pharmaceutical companies pay farmers around $50 for their participation in the research program. The serum’s global value is $2500 per liter.
How do the pharmaceutical companies obtain the calf’s serum?
It isn’t pretty.
The farmer will hang the cow from a hook and slice out the uterus. Regulations require the cow to have been dead for at least a five minute period of time.
Pharmaceutical Whistleblower Exposed Pregnant Cow Draining
The whistleblower decided to come out with their story because he/she claims that the industry is being hypocritical. The New Zealand government is demanding that cow farmers slaughter a set number of pregnant cows. The government hopes to prevent a mycoplasma bovis outbreak by killing set numbers of cows. The farmers say they are staunchly opposed to “killing pregnant cows.”
“It’s self-serving saying the government is forcing them to slaughter when they’ve been doing it for years,” the source said.
Draining Pregnant Cows Is Profitable For Farmers
The issue is further complicated by the concept of utilizing an already pregnant cow that’s being slaughtered for more profit and more research purposes. In other words, if the pregnant cow is already to be slaughtered, the cow owner justifies extra “found” revenue because the cow would be slaughtered anyway.
But some people believe that farmers might be intentionally creating an industry of pregnant cows. In other words, creating cows that are pregnant for the sole purpose of additional revenue from pharmaceutical companies.
New Zealand’s Meat Industry Association says that it has a strong commitment to the humane treatment of animals. The meat industry claims that additional revenue is not the intended purpose of draining the pregnant cow uteruses.
