President Trump is taking major precautions against the threat of an EMP attack. The President signed an executive order on Tuesday authorizing more studies into an electromagnetic pulse. Electromagnetic pulse, or an EMP attack, could knock out the United States power grid for months, even years.
Some lawmakers worry that terrorist nations could deploy an EMP attack on our nation. The most notable EMP threat being North Korea, followed by Iran.
Trump’s order serves to bolster defenses against EMP attacks, as well as a strategy for EMP attack fall-out. According to Bloomberg, the Trump administration claims there is no specific known threat. They say the President signed the order to prepare for the general idea of the threat.
EMP attacks allow less sophisticated nations to impose mass destruction on larger, more capable nations. By detonating a nuclear warhead above the United States, a nation can compromise our power-grid. The worse narrative being that a broken U.S. power grid would take months or even years to fix. Countries such as North Korea and Iran are well aware of our nation’s vulnerability. And now it seems that President Trump is as well.
