ESEE Laser Strike Fixed Blade Knife Review

The ESEE Laser Strike fixed blade knife is a man among men when it comes to survival knives. You have probably noticed that this knife blade’s tip is a spear point, rather than a traditional design which is typically drop point. Spear points mean intelligent alignment with handle ends, allowing for a multitude of unique prepper and survivalist tasks opportunity. I do list the ESEE Laser Strike in my best fixed blade knives. I can’t imagine a prepper being unhappy with this purchase. Considering it is an economic buy as well as a high-quality experience, there isn’t a lot of downside to purchasing it.

ESEE Laser Strike Specifications (the short and sweet)

The overall length is 10 inches. The blade’s length comes in at just under half of that with 4.75 inches. It weighs 9.5 ounces in total. Blade material used is 1095 High Carbon. Sheath is made from Kydex. The handle is made from linen Micarta. You get a handle removal washer and a belt clip plate when you order the Laser Strike fixed blade.

ESEE has a rather incredible warranty on their knives. If you visit their website, you will find “If you break it, we will replace it” as their warranty verbiage. It doesn’t get much better than that and shows that ESEE has superior confidence in the construction of their knives. This is not a cheap knife, but also it isn’t the most expensive. It is nice to see a manufacturer stand by their bold claims.

This is a heavy knife at just under 10 ounces. This limits your ability to reasonably carry it around your neck. It would not be great as an EDC knife. It would take up room in your bug out bag. That’s not to say that it shouldn’t be part of your bug out bag essentials, that’s just me saying you may have to consider its place as you only have so much room in a survival bag and the weight of that bag matters greatly.

The ESEE Laser Strike can most certainly serve as any prepper’s core survival knife. It is without question a resilient, beautifully designed and sturdy experience. The blade’s drop point design makes it a unique prepper knife experience. I think it might be impossible to break.

ESEE Laser Strike Blade

As noted, the Laser Strike’s blade is a spear point blade. That separates it from the herd, for good or for bad, depending on your personal preference in such matters. The blade is constructed from 1095 High Carbon.

Here’s the thing, this knife’s blade has a great coating, but severe usage will wear through the coating. The 1095 high carbon steel is good, but it isn’t VG10 steel. It will rust if left untreated after blade exposure occurs in worn down portions. In this case, touching it up with delicate application of oil could benefit the knife’s lifespan. The Laser Strike’s powder coating should outlast more expensive fixed blade competitors.

The blade is super sharp right out of the box and the high-quality steel will help it hold an edge for a really long time, depending on how much you use it. The blade will cut through the toughest of materials. It is hard to imagine that you’d find all that many hunting, camping or prepping tasks that the Laser Strike couldn’t competently step up to. The blade is sharp enough to shave your body hair.

ESEE Laser Strike Handle

This knife fits in the hand comfortably. It has a nice balance and feels safe and secure. The micarta material is commonly found on higher end knife handles and gun grips. It lasts a long time and offers comfort to those who are holding it.

ESEE Laser Strike Sheath

The Laser Strike’s sheath is made from Kydex. Kydex is a solid material manufactured by a company called Sekisui SPI. The sheath offers you a variety of ways to carry the Laser Strike. The downside to the sheath is that it doesn’t allow you to reverse the knife’s position. If you read this site enough, you know I give pretty little focus to sheaths. You are paying for the knife, not the sheath. If the sheath is great and you love it, you truly won. If not, so long as the knife is great, you can sleep just fine at night.

In the case of the Laser Strike fixed blade, it is a true gem and any prepper or survivalists should find it a wonderful experience. You really can’t go wrong here. But hey, survival knives are a subjective thing. If you don’t prefer a spear point, this would not be the knife for you. Not worry, you have lots of options in my best fixed blade knives.
