A Florida Keys couple has been incarcerated for refusing to quarantine following positive COVID-19 test results.
Jose Interian, 24, and Yohana Gonzalez, 26, now face charges related to violating emergency management disaster preparedness rules. The couple was arrested on Wednesday in the Keys.
The Health Department ordered the couple to self-isolate, however, neighbors turned them in for violating the order. An anonymous person videotaped the couple in violation of the order and handed it over to Key West police.
“There were complaints from the neighborhood of them continuing to be outside, going about normal life functions,” Greg Veliz, Key West’s city manager said, via weartv.com.
Tragically, neighbors turning neighbors in is the new state of affairs in the United States. And it seems that local officials are quick to enforce rules.
