Microsoft Announces It Will Read Your Messages And Ban ‘Offensive Content’
Microsoft has announced that it will now begin banning accounts that do not follow their newly announced “code of conduct.” Microsoft, the creator and owner of a slew of online services, most notably, Microsoft Office, XBOX, and Skype, has sent a ripple of uncertainty across the Internet.
The release, dated release, warns all the users of their services that the following will no longer be tolerated: nudity, bestiality, pornography, offensive language, graphic violence, or criminal activity. Worse more, this may only be a “portion” of their “code of conduct.”
The investigations will be carried out by Microsoft rummaging through user data. Yes, this means Microsoft will extract the content of your emails, instant messages, and XBOX.
“When investigating alleged violations of these Terms, Microsoft reserves the right to review Your Content in order to resolve the issue,” the new policy states.
Needless to say, civil rights activists have jumped all over Microsoft for their change to their terms of service.
“Offensive language is fairly vague. Offensive to whom? What my granny might find offensive and what I might find offensive could be vastly different,” Ms. Smith of CSO Online stated.

“I can’t use Skype to have an adult video call with my girlfriend? I can’t use OneDrive to back up a document that says ‘f–k’ in it? If I call someone a mean name in Xbox Live, not only will they cancel my account, but also confiscate any funds I’ve deposited in my account?” Law student and rights activist, Jonathan Corbett, said in a public statement.
The Digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation claims that Microsoft is reacting/responding to a Justice Department change in sex trafficking laws, namely, the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA). In this case, the burden is on Microsoft to root out illegal activities in regards to such crimes.
But to what end do we sacrifice our privacy under the guise of increased security? Microsoft clearly states “offensive language” in their TOS, which means they reserve the right to cancel the accounts of those who may question abortion, mandatory vaccines, and transgender education at the elementary school level.
This is a horrible constitutional breach, but unfortunately, liberalism has made it quite clear that the constitution is hardly relevant anymore.
