NASA Urgently Trying To Stop Doomsday SuperVolcano From Erupting
NASA intends to drill six miles into Yellowstone National Park as a risky solution to stop what could be a catastrophic supervolcano’s explosion. The plan, if successful, is inherently risky and extremely costly.
Yellowstone SuperVolcano – How Did NASA Get Here?
Yellowstone National Park is one of the most beautiful places on earth. However, lurking beneath the gorgeous landscape is a murky, overheating magma pool that’s building heat and pressure alike. The combination of the two is precisely the right formula for a massive supervolcano eruption.
NASA wants to stop this and “save mankind from doomsday.”
If Yellowstone erupts, the world would experience a violence it hasn’t known for at least 100,000 years.
But that’s the thing, the world is overdue to endure a catastrophic eruption and Yellowstone has the attention of scientists at NASA.
A Yellowstone eruption would cause a nuclear winter. The effects would be felt worldwide, with particular emphasis on the United States central plains and eastern seaboards. The plumes of volcanic ash would cover the skies and lower the earth’s temperatures and cast most of the world into a doomsday winter. Power and electronics would likely fail. Plants would die, wildlife would thin out, and starvation would set in.
In other words, the consequences of a Yellowstone eruption are inarguable horrific.
Those without a preppers list accomplished (food storage, water supply, ammo…) would be the first to go if the original eruption event didn’t already take them out.
A recent UN report calculated that worldwide food storage is a dire 74 days in total. That means if any catastrophic weather event hit our planet, everyone’s timeline would drastically decrease.
This is why NASA finds it imperative to ‘do something.’
But the question becomes, would NASA potentially do more harm than good?
NASA Risks Prompting Yellowstone Eruption
NASA’s concept is to cool the magma below Yellowstone. If you cool the magma, you lower the pressure.
The science here is rather fundamental.
But achieving that cooling is complicated, expensive, and risky.
One way NASA considered achieving the cooling process was by way of infusing water into the chambers. The problem here is that the world needs water for drinking. Building water aqueducts to push up into the chambers would cost billions and deplete drinking water. Even if such a concept were achievable, NASA would have to convince the world that depleting drinking water sources and spending billions on technology would truly be ‘saving mankind from doomsday.’
That, my friends, is a hard sell.
NASA To Drill Into Yellowstone
Now comes the approved plan, as unsettling or inspiring as you may find it.
NASA plans to drill six miles into the surface of Yellowstone and infuse the cooling waters into the chambers. NASA believes this would prompt a daily cooling process.
However, this feels a little like playing with fire.
First, we must consider the concept of funneling water into the earth’s crust. In states such as Oklahoma, this has resulted in a massive increase in earthquake events. Oklahoma earthquakes are no longer rare, instead, they are common. Fracking, which is a process that shoots water down into the earth’s chamber, disrupts layers of sediment by lubricating and filling cracks.
Do we want to lubricate Yellowstone’s cracks?
Even if my hypothetical is unfounded, a deeper concern could be the disruption of drilling into an active volcano’s chambers. NASA claims it would drill on the outside parameters and admit that drilling dead center of the volcanic property could accelerate an eruption.
NASA Yellowstone Drill Is Costly
While we can’t put a price tag on the continued existence of mankind, we still may cringe slightly at the $3.40 billion price tag on the drilling project.
The key is, would it work?
That’s a mystery, which makes it a huge gamble by any standard.
I’m not sure that attempting to manipulate mother nature is going to end the way we think it may.
Other Noteworthy Risks
The potential Yellowstone eruption is commonly considered amongst the most popular ways we’ll all see our demise. The narrative has been featured on Discovery Channel and National Geographic.
But its hardly the only detrimental risk to mankind’s long-term viability.
The New Madrid fault line is a reasonable fear to have for anyone living in the central and southern plains, as well as a portion of the east coast. If the New Madrid fault line goes off, thousands and even millions could die instantaneously.
The central and east portions of the United States simply don’t have structures which could withstand even a moderate earthquake. The situation is further worsened by the fact that the plates in the midwest are largely connected and would amplify shaking for a much larger radius than ones that strike places like California.
The point is, being prepared for one potential threat is often being prepared for many potential threats. If the Yellowstone supervolcano scares you, get your prepper supplies and be prepared. Because, well, you truly never know what may happen in the future.
