Nikki Haley Resigns As United States Ambassador to the United Nations
According to reports, President Trump has accepted the resignation of United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley. There are no details as to the timing of her official departure, only that she’s office notified the White House of her exit.
President Trump has reportedly known of the situation for at least a week. Many staffers are reportedly in complete shock over the situation.
Haley is the former governor of South Carolina. She was thrust into the limelight after accepting a position on Trump’s cabinet. Her strong pro-Israel stances have inspired many around the world, and similarly, upset others.
During Haley’s tenure as Ambassador, the United States exited the UN Human Rights Council, which Haley termed a “greatest failure.”
Last September, the Washington Post published a piece on Haley where she noted that she “doesn’t agree with the President on everything.” In the same piece, she said she felt the NY Time anonymous source of the anti-Trump scathing article should have shown his or her face.
It isn’t clear, however, if her departure is an indication of her displeasure with Trump following the grueling SCOTUS nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. While the timing is certainly suspect, no details are known.
