Trump To Order NATIONAL EMERGENCY, Invoke Stafford Act
President Trump plans to declare a national emergency over coronavirus. This will invoke the Stafford Act and begin funneling in more federal funds to states and cities for disaster relief.
As more and more politicians condemn Trump, he increasingly indicates he intends to fold under the scrutiny. Trump originally marginalized coronavirus as just another flu. A mindset many citizens support. But it’s becoming clear that Trump intends to hedge his decision making process by further fueling coronavirus hysteria.
Invoking the Stafford Act frees up over $42 billion in funding for states available in the Disaster Relief Fund The declaration allows states to request 75% federal cost-share for expenses that include emergency workers, medical tests, medical supplies, vaccinations, security for medical facilities, and more. This all according to Bloomberg who first reported the story.
Such emergency declarations are extremely rare in the United States. President Bill Clinton declared emergencies in New York/New Jersey in response to West Nile Virus.
