Mysterious Loud Booms Rock Kansas, Oklahoma
A series of what sounded like explosions shook up neighborhoods and offices throughout Wichita, Kansas, and extended as far as neighboring Oklahoma.
Sedgwick County emergency dispatchers were alerted of the troubling instance around 1:40 PM. Emergency lines lit up citing potential explosions occurring all around the area. Others thought it may have been an earthquake due to homes reporting shaking.
But no earthquake was confirmed, nor any explosions.
So what were the loud booms?
It’s becoming more and more clear that it was a possible meteor.
The American Meteor Society believes that the sounds may be related to a meteor entering the earth’s atmosphere. But where the mystery meteor landed remains a mystery.
Point blank, we still do not know what caused the booms and shaking. The meteor possibility is the best guess at this point. Officials continue to investigate the matter. Residents and journalists quickly took to social media to question what exactly happened.

The mysterious boom heard across the Wichita area may have been from a meteor. Reports of a fireball came in from Garden City and Oklahoma City. https://t.co/Xub3K4o3lD
